The uses of domesticated animals at the Early Bronze Age City of Wangjinglou, China

Zooarchaeological research on the early Bronze Age in Central Plain of North China has been focused mainly two periods: Erlitou culture (ca. 1900–1500 BC) and late Shang Dynasty 1250–1046 BC). In this paper, our animal bone assemblage from Wangjinglou site, a walled city Erligang 1600–1400 BC), allows us to explore use resources husbandry specializations during time period between Shang. Domesticated animals, especially pigs cattle, were dominant species faunal assemblage, while wild deer, small number. Moreover, percentages cattle sheep higher prosperous phases at lower later phase site's decline. Analysis estimated death ages for various taxa suggests that raised meat consumption, used secondary products. This shows varied nature economy an City East Asia.
